This 99m² custom IBR awning installed at 55 Tulbagh Boutique Venue & Guesthouse in Kempton Park.
The brief was simple:
✔️ Keep the courtyard feeling open

✔️ Complement the existing architecture
By installing the structure at approximately 4 meters high, the space still feels airy and inviting while now being usable in almost any weather.
The owners of 55 Tulbagh Boutique Venue & Guesthouse wanted to transform their central courtyard into a functional all-weather entertainment space while preserving its open and welcoming atmosphere.
The primary objective was to provide reliable protection from rain for guests attending functions and events without creating the feeling of an enclosed structure. Maintaining natural daylight, unobstructed views of the surrounding gardens, and good airflow were all key design considerations.
To achieve this, Awning Pro designed and installed a 99m² custom aluminium IBR awning positioned approximately 4 metres above ground level. The elevated installation maintains the spacious character of the courtyard while providing year-round weather protection.
A key engineering feature of the project was the strategic use of structural I-beams to span the large open area. This eliminated the need for additional support poles within the entertainment space, ensuring guests can move freely without obstructions. The result is a clean, open environment that is ideally suited for weddings, private functions, corporate events and everyday hospitality.
The white aluminium framework complements the venue's existing architecture, while the clear IBR roof sheeting allows abundant natural light to filter through, keeping the courtyard bright, inviting and comfortable in all weather conditions.
The completed structure seamlessly combines structural strength, architectural design and practical functionality, allowing 55 Tulbagh to maximise the use of its outdoor venue throughout the year.
